While clearing out the rest of the 'TETRAPANAX BED', I found THIS! Yep! more pretty, darn, serious Tetrapanax root to dig out! Mind you, this root belonged to a secondary and tertiary plant, not the primary plant!
I first saw Tetrapanax from a distance at Secret Garden Growers this summer. It was planted near the owners house and can be seen from the nursery. I asked about and was invited up to see it. "Wow!" I said. The nursery man explained how "vigorous" the root system is. Since then I've been trying to rationalize getting it for my yard, but couldn't. Thanks for giving me permission to give up on this plant (for this yard anyways!).
missing the fuzzy guy already it scared the b-JEEzus out of me while alive and now even in its death; may we all be as worthy (and full of vigor for that matter)

Seriously? How old was the primary plant? (yes...scared, just a little)
Seriously!
The primary plant was 4 years old...
Oh, the tetrapanax was so architectural and old too! Well if it was causing irritation AND had such invasive roots that couldn't have been good...
'We' need to find the next gorgeous, hardy, sculptural, non-invasive plant for our gardens in the Pacific NW. What are your favs Rainforest Gardener?
